I want to speak with someone who understands the importance of faith in my choices, but I am afraid of being told that patience means staying silent about what is happening. What questions can I ask before trusting a counselor, scholar, or community leader with something this personal?

I now ask whether the person can talk about safety, accountability, and harm without making me feel guilty for needing help. Their answer tells me a lot.
It helped to remember that asking for protection and wise counsel is not a failure of faith. I needed someone who could hold both parts of the question.
